1. a warrant or authorization; justification.

2. a) a promise or pledge that something is what it is claimed to be; guarantee: »

a warranty of the quality of the goods sold.

b) a covenant annexed to a deed to land in which the seller guarantees that the title is good. In feudal law, the warranty given by a grantor of a freehold estate obliged him to give the grantee lands of equal value if the latter were evicted. c) a promise or pledge made by the insured in an insurance contract, breach of which invalidates the policy. d) a warrant or writ.

3. Obsolete except Dialect. an assurance; promise.
